I.P.M.S. Roscoe Turner Chapter April 2011 Newsletter

Thank you one and all for attending the March meeting less than a week after the Contest. I know it took me a couple of days to recover from the Contest.

March Meeting

Ron brought the meeting to order and the first order of business was to conduct an informal After Action Review of the Contest of the previous week. Overall, the Contest and Merchants Room went very well. There was a good team effort from set up on Friday through tear down on Saturday evening. Minor disconnects always take place but they were quickly addressed for the most part and did not develop into show stoppers. There are always learned lessons to be applied to future events. The trick is to remember them in the future.

The Show results and photos have been posted onto the IPMS Web Site for viewing.
Kudos go out to the Dayton Wright Pat IMPS Club, for enthusiastically helping out with the show and judging. They helped make things go very well.
There was some discussion about printing entry forms from the Web and ways to expedite entry processing at the Shows Registration Table. That will likely be a work in progress under refinement. We had 615 entries for the show of which 498 were submitted via downloaded forms.
After expenses were met for the show, we did pretty well for the club coffer.
One other point of discussion brought up was to vet models for appropriateness to the cited category prior to judging.
Another item was to affix a dedicated 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place stamp to the entry to ensure awards are correctly placed.

A new club has started up in Indiana. Please welcome the Muncie Modelers. They meet the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM at the Toys Forever Hobbies Shop, 311 S. Walnut Street, Muncie, IN 47308, Telephone (765) 288-6505, email: munciemodelers@att.net

Elections will be held during the April meeting. The call has gone out for volunteers for the various chapter offices ahead of time and include those names in the newsletter. A copy of the Club Constitution is available. Currently all offices are open to nominations, so if you are interested in holding office or have questions please reply directly to Rick Wilkes. Keep in mind most of the folks currently in office have been there for a very long time and surely would appreciate a change of pace. More so, they are not above applying Channel Locks to teeth. Plenty of Club Members should be nominating themselves or others for elected office. It ought to be a quick and hopefully painless process.

Toward the end of the March Meeting, a variation of the White Elephant Gift Exchange took place which was rather well enjoyed and quite competitive. Several items changed hands and everyone present was given something.

This is a idea from Mark Smith in Cleveland! Please consider this as a viable public relations event in support for a good cause.
Host a breast cancer awareness build a model oriented event or a Model Show. Attached is a link to CMS 15 www.clevelandmodelshow.org and from there you can link to a page with a description of the event. Getting the word out in the best way possible is always important.
Tom Choy is looking for a kit of the Dragon #7013 (1/700 Soviet Missile Craft)
A RT splinter group is forming up for those of us who enjoy Buffalo Wild Wings, post RT meeting camaraderie and firearms! It's been loosely coined as the Roscoe Turner Gun Club - (RTGC). Recent thoughts/comments have been suggesting that we need to group up and head to the range. So... Anyone care to join up for a roadtrip?

Please send back your response and copy the group. Exact details as to timing and transport arrangements will be made up as confirmations are collected. We can reconfirm after the April RT meeting (4/15) at BWW as well.

If someone knows of any good local model contests; please let me know and I'll update the newsletter. I'm still working through and correcting email addresses and mailing addresses. Please notify me of any additions or corrections. Please include at least name and phone number and address if possible. The phone number is the only easy way to verify the correct email address if it is returned.
