I.P.M.S. Roscoe Turner Chapter May 2011 Newsletter

This seems to be one of those hard to start Newsletters. This is the eighth first sentence. I apologize for not going to print sooner. A minor dental issue transpired which led to a bacterial infection. The offending and irreparably cracked molar was yanked on April 27th. My paranoia around dentists stems from watching 'Marathon Man' several times and a long military career.
April was a tough month for our fellowship. Condolences go to Ron Young, Vic Russell, and your families for the loss of your loved ones.
A large contingent of us attended the funeral for Steve Bridges earlier this month. Taking it at face value, his family was grateful and was glad that we were there for him. Knowing Steve, he thought it was pretty cool too. It was the good thing to do. I'll leave it at that.

April Meeting

Rick Wilkes started the Shindig off around 7:30ish P.M. and we introduced a guest, Raymond Keener who is fairly new to Indianapolis and builds aircraft models.
The big event was the Annual Elections for Office. The nomination process actually did occur. There was also some side bar haggling, such as, "if this person runs, I'll run for that office, but they have to wear such and such". Or "control the currency? I'll run for Treasurer!". When the Ballot finally fleshed out, we had viable candidates for the following offices:

After a fair, egalitarian, and mature (by our standards) election process, which involved no bribes, voter fraud, intimidation, etceteras, (maybe the big dogs could learn a lesson) the election was successfully concluded.

The newly elected Officers of the Chapter are as follows:

April Show and Tell:

Nelson Taylor showed and discussed a portable workshop in the guise of his toolbox. It is a very complete assemblage, including an anvil and hammer. Not kidding...
Jim Philhauer displayed and discussed a number of actual US WWII Ration Cards and Ration Books. It brought into focus what life in the United States was like back then. One could purchase a limited amount of goods or merchandise on certain days as specified in the ration documents. People forget that uniformed military personnel patrolled large cities and garrison towns, which is almost unheard of these days. It has happened before, most recently after 9-11.
John Bowery displayed his finally completed Snail Rider vignette. It is a delightfully detailed piece of work that you have to look for the small items which really makes the whole work stand out.
Tom Choy discussed his C-27-J made by Italeri. It has turned into a challenging work in progress. When finished, it should look a quite accomplished work.
Al Grimm brought in and discussed his Tamiya Me-262 Photo Recon. It is a very detailed finished model, including kit bashed and scratch built items. It even has cameras mounted in the nose of the model.
Al gave an impromptu demonstration on how to make flat metal rings, such as circular aerials on some aircraft of the era.

In Summary, Addendum, New Stuff, Good Idea Faries, Etc.

The loosely coined Roscoe Turner Gun Club - (RTGC) convened at the State Range, Camp Atterbury on Apr 17th. Rain postponed the gathering from the previous day. A hand full of RT Chapter Members turned up and a lot of projectiles were safely launched down range and no one was tossed off the line. All in all it was a good time. This was then followed by several hours of drudge in the form of weapons cleaning and maintenance.
The model contest in Atlanta, GA scheduled to take place on 06-25-11 has been canceled due to lack of vendor sales & gas prices. This is a grave concern because any club that puts on a show commits a large sum of money spread out to various sources before the show even opens.
Rick Wilkes is looking for a "flame" part out of a Hawk Buzz Bomb or Baka Bomb kit.
The Armor Modeling and Preservation Society 2012 National Contest is scheduled for Auburn, Indiana again, or, so I heard.

Finally, I'm still working through and correcting email addresses and mailing addresses. Please notify me of any additions or corrections. Please include at least name and phone number and address if possible. The phone number is the only easy way to verify the correct email address if it is returned.
