Welcome to the July Issue.
It's summer, and having looked in the Model Closet, I realized that it is getting fuller rather than emptier. It's
either physics, magic, or Gremlins
July Meeting Recap:
Jim Philhower started the meeting to order and covered new business. Anyway, moving on. The meeting was well attended.
The only down point was the Soda machine was inoperative.
The Chapter decided on a point of business considering recent deaths in families, to adopt the following. Funerals will
be addressed on a case by case basis following no formal policy. Individual may take part or decline as they see fit.
Updates for the 2012 were pretty light, but they are developing and starting to move forward. More information will
come forth in due time.
There was discussion and commentary about the film 'Super 8' as there is a lot of plastic modeling in it as one of the
characters portrays a scale modeler.
I received a closed envelope from Roger early into the meeting, with the request to keep it on the 'QT' until a future
time. Now that your curiosity bump has been nudged, read the rest of the Newsletter, and in due course the contents of
his envelope will become clear.
Ron Young's club contest, which was scheduled for May, has been moved to August. Again it is Rolls Royce/ Allison. Word
was supposed to have filtered out before the meeting, however it did not seem to filter or dribble in everywhere.
Al Grimm will be hosting a second huge model sale at his place later this summer. Date, to be announced.
It was large model collection with over 2200 kits. It is a bit smaller in quantity now. None of the kits have been
started, few have ever been opened, and at least 75% of them are still in the shrink wrap with the original price
tags. Some probably never shrink wrap to begin with. The vast majority are aircraft kits, (all scales, but mainly 1/48)
mostly propeller driven though there are several jets. There are less than a dozen armor kits, a dozen or so car kits,
and a few ships as well. Along with all the major manufacturers there are kits from Azur, MPM, Special Hobby, Valom
and more. There are about 100 or so decal sheets, some photo etch sets, and a few less books too.
The Chapter is looking into a new location for our Chapter Contest in March. Ideally a hotel convention center. The contest would also evolve into a Friday into Saturday contest. Potential locations are being reconnoitered.
Show and Tell
Upcoming chapter events & contests:
July - All American, contact Al Grimm for details.
"All American: Any model, any subject matter, from any AMERICAN manufacturer. I'd like to go so far as to say "actually
made in America" but that likely limits the selection to models produced sometime prior to 1980 or perhaps earlier. So,
for the sake of simplicity and to encourage participation, I'll simply say American model manufacturer. Build it any way
you want -- Out-of-the-box, converted, enhanced, and any markings you like. But the same rule applies. The accessories must
be from an American manufacturer."
Augest - Rolls-Royce/Allison, contact Ron Young for details.
